Viral Marketing

Seeding dendelion.Viral marketing is a fairly recent buzz word but it has been going on long before Facebook was invented.

Viral marketing is any marketing which by virtue of its content alone self-replicates, self-distributes, or auto-promotes your brand.

The most common form of viral marketing is to create something that has enough emotional impact (usually comic) that people want to share it with others. One of the best examples is “Grocery Store Wars”, a spoof on “Star Wars” which starred fruits and vegetables as “Darth Tater” and “Cuke Skywalker” which was produced by a consortium of organic farmers. The short video is a classic.

Another classic example is the “Will It Blend” campaign by BlendTec.  This company makes a line of high end blenders that they claim will blend anything.  In their videos the throw things like iPads into their blenders and chop them up into pieces.  People are fascinated by them and the brand has taken top mind awareness when it comes to super blenders.
